Bangkok Museums

 
If you think museums are boring places, you are in for a big surprise in Bangkok museums.  Bangkok museums feature strange and unique relics, reflecting their equally colourful culture and heritage. 
 
Some museums are housed in interesting buildings, like the Jim Thompson's House. 
 
The best place to start has to be the National Museum, in Rattanakosin.  Its displays span from all periods of Thai history, and provides an interesting insight to the country's art and architecture.
 

National Museum

The Jim Thompson House Museum

  • Displays interesting art, sculpture and everyday items used 40 years ago. 
  • The building was assembled from six smaller houses combined into one.

Children's Discovery Museum

  • A kids-friendly museum encouraging hands-on approach to learning.

Suan Pakkard Palace Museum

  • Consists of a collection of traditional Thai style houses bought together and turned into a museum by some royals.

The Ancient City

King Prajadhipok Museum

  • A museum devoted to this king who ruled as Rama VII for just 10 years,
  • His reign marked the end of the absolute monarchy.

Erawan Museum

  • Hightlight is the massive statue of the three-headed elephant in this museum. 
  • The statue weighs 250 tons, and represents the epic image Hindu's mythology, Airavata.

Corrections Museum

  • Restored from the Bangkok Remand Prison
  • Learn about the gruesome punishments meted out to offenders in Thailand.

Forensic Museum

  • A macabre museum with preserved corpses of convicted killers. 
  • One famous display is the preserved body of Thailand's most famous mass murderer and cannibal.
