Wat Arun Festival

Nov 2009(annual)

  • Has a range of performances like Chinese opera, Thai boxing and tightrope walking.
  • Complements the Loy Krathong celebrations, features rare performances such as Khon Chak Rok ("flying" Khon court dance), a sound and light show and Ngiew Chinese Opera.

Loi Krathong

  • Loi" means "to float". "Krathong" is a raft made from  banana tree trunk decorated with elaborately-folded banana leaves, flowers, candles, etc.
  • During the night of the full moon,  locals release these lit up rafts into Chao Phraya River.
  • Entertainment include traditional Thai cultural performances, markets and local food

Chinatown Festival

Feb 2010 (annual)

  • Highlights include cultural demonstrations, fashion shows and Chinese films.

Bangkok Chinese New Year Festival

Feb 2010 (annual)

  • Celebrates the New Year according to the Chinese calendar.
  • Expect international and Chinese music, lion dancing, local Chinese cultural performances, Chinese opera
  • Lots of delicious food including Peking duck, Chinese desserts and noodles.

Magha Puja

Mar 2010 (annual)

  • An important Buddhist holy day
  • Celebrates the occasion when 1250 of Buddha's disciples gathered to hear him speak.
  • Main celebrations take place at temples during the day.

Songkran Festival

April 2010 (annual)

  • A fun water-festival happening mainly on Khaosan Road
  • Starts with greeting visitors with fragrant sandlewood paste on their cheeks.
  • By, buckets of water or water pistols are used
