Visas to Bangkok
Bangkok's attraction has led some to choose to live and work in Bangkok, and there are various visas that allow this. Generally, if you are over 50 years old, it is much easier because you can apply for the retirement visa. Others stay on using spousal visas or work permits. And the majority do get on with 30/60 days tourist or multi-entry Non immigrant visa.
Different Types of Non-Immigrant Visas
A foreigner applies for a non-immigrant visa when he/she wants to stay or work in Thailand. This visa has several categories:
- Diplomatic visa (D) is for those employed by an embassy
- Business visa (B)
- Mass media visa (M) are for accredited business or press representatives
- Dependent visa (O)
- Expert visa (EX) are for those performing skilled or expert work
- Investor visa (IM) is for foreigners who set-up their companies under the Board Of Investment BOI
- and a study/education visa (ED) is for teachers.
- Official ( F). Performance of official duties (involving the Thai government).
- Capital Investment ( IM ).
- Investment (with concurrence of the ministries and departments concerned). BOI ( IB ).
- Investment subject to the provision of the laws on investment promotion.
- (ED). Educational study or observation.
- ( R ). Missionary work.
- ( RS). Scientific research or training, or study in an educational institution in the Kingdom.
- ( EX). Performance of skilled or expert work.
- ( S). Participation in an officially recognized sports event.
- Others "O". Others, including dependents and retired persons.
30 Day Visas
These are given to most nationalities when they enter Thailand and can be extended once for 10 days. You can extend by visiting the nearest immigration department before the expiry date. The fee is 1,900 Baht.
60 Day Visas
These are issued by Thailand Embassies abroad for about $15. Once in Thailand, they can be extended for a further 30 days at the nearest immigration department before the expiry date at 1,900 Baht.
