Getting Around in Bangkok
Getting Around on BTS Skyrain
One of the most convenient ways for tourists to get around Bangkok is using the BTS Skytrain. The BTS Skytrain is fast, affordable and passes over the notorious traffic jams. The network runs along two lines that connect the central parts of Bangkok with the Metro system, which in turn covers a larger area. It is possible to reach most tourist hotels and attractions by the BTS SKytrain.
Fares: Between 10-40 baht or 100 baht for a day pass (10, 15 and 30 trip passes are also available). Trains come every 3-5 minutes. Journey times are no more than 30 minutes from one end of the line to the other.
Getting Around on City Buses
Bangkok's bus system is a cheap and reliable means of getting around Bangkok. Lanes on some busy roads are open only to buses, which make travelling on them sometimes faster than taxis. It's worth waiting for and paying a few more bahts for an air-con bus, especially if there is a jam.
Different bus colours:
Green bus: 4.5 baht. Be careful because there are no closed doors on these small buses.
Red bus (blue / white bus): 6 baht (7 for blue). These are regular sized and come with fans.
Air con buses (cream / blue and orange): 9-17 baht (cream blue), 11-12 baht (orange).
Getting Around on Boat
The Chao Phraya River has several boats, such as the Chao Phraya Express Boat, which runs from Wat Rajsingkorn to Nonthaburi. It also covers all the tourist attractions along the banks of the Chao Phraya. A popular route is taking the BTS Skytrain to Saphan Taksin station, then transferring to a boat to g et to the Grand Palace, Wat Po and the Wat Arun.
Getting Around on Tuk-tuks
These are three-wheelers and which fares should be bargained before the trip. Generally, a tuk-tuk should cost less than 30 percent of a taxi fare for the same destination.
Getting Around on Motorbike Taxis
Agree on the fare before the trip but expect to pay about 10-20 baht per ride. Motorcyle taxi drivers usually wear orange or green waistcoast with unique number, and usually congregate outside shopping centres.
